Maria is another life long orca lover having too fell in love with the Free Willy movies from a young age. Although her career as a Paediatric Nurse took her in another direction she found herself drawn back to her love of dolphins and whales and decided to travel to Norway to see orcas in the wild... here she was lucky enough to meet some people involved in Ric O'Barry's Dolphin Project and before she knew it became a volunteer herself. Maria has been involved with Dolphin Project since 2015, travelling to China to assist with the book tour for the release of 'The Cove', Japan on 3 occasions to document the slaughter and capture of dolphins, given educational talks about the reasons dolphins should not be in captivity ranging from primary school level to university level, hosted educational and fundraising events and managed merchandise and information stalls promoting awareness. Through her work with Dolphin Project Maria became close friends with Alex, and after discovering their shared passion for orcas specifically... the rest is history.
Personal Note: When the opportunity to be involved in Searching For Chinook arose, I left my nursing job to dedicate myself full time to the documentary. It has been a roller coaster of emotions but I am learning so much along the way and hope all our passion and hard work shows in the final product and more importantly that we can make a difference to the Southern residents.
